Braces and teens; teenagers and braces – those adolescent years are often the same years when we're seen with an orthodontic appliance fitted to our teeth. But gone are the days of having a mouth full of metal – these days, Invisalign is all the rage among our teenage patients and for good reason.
How does Invisalign work for teens?
Invisalign’s virtually invisible orthodontic aligners are an effective treatment option for teenage patients. Customised to your teen’s teeth and jaws from the 3D image we take using our TRIOS digital scanner, the aligners are comfortable to wear and, because they’re removable, fit easily into a teen’s lifestyle. Invisalign also makes having orthodontic treatment as easy as possible for teens. Any aligners customised for our teen patients come with a blue dot. This is a wear indicator which fades the longer you wear your aligner. For optimum results, we recommend wearing your aligners for 22 hours a day, only removing them for eating, brushing and flossing.
That said, Invisalign is a popular treatment method because the aligners are removable, so we also understand you will want to take the aligners out when playing sports, practicing musical instruments or when going out on special occasions, like a first date or the school prom.
One of the most common questions our team here at Peel Orthodontics gets asked about Invisalign is, “are the aligners as good as traditional braces?” Our answer is, yes. Invisalign can get the same, if not better, results for our teen patients.
