What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a specialty arm of dentistry which focuses on correcting the alignment of your teeth and jaws.
What problems does orthodontic treatment fix?
The most common orthodontic problems we see are crowding and spacing issues or those relating to a patient’s bite, such as an overbite or underbite.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
No, it doesn’t hurt but at stages throughout your treatment you will experience times of discomfort. This can be relieved by over-the-counter pain relief.
How much does orthodontic treatment cost?
This depends on the type of treatment you receive. We have outlined some fees on our treatment costs page but we will provide you with a quote for your customised treatment at your consultation.
Do I need braces?
If you're self-conscious about your smile, find it difficult to brush all of your teeth because of crowding or spacing issues, have protruding teeth or find it difficult to properly chew your food, then you could benefit from braces. We offer an initial, no-obligation treatment co-ordinator assessment so you can find out if you are a candidate for orthodontic treatment.
Why can’t I just go to my dentist for braces?
Orthodontics is a very specialised field. Our orthodontist, Dr Ash Patel, trained first as a dentist and then spent many years doing further training to gain the knowledge and experience needed to work in orthodontics.
Wearing braces is not just about straightening your teeth. It is also about making sure your jaw aligns properly, your bite is correct and your teeth all line up. Teeth that are straightened without the specialist training, supervision and facilities available only at an orthodontist could be detrimental to your overall wellbeing.
What does orthodontics do?
Orthodontics straightens teeth and corrects misaligned jaws, both of which can lead to other health problems later in life. Therefore, getting it right the first time is critical.
Do you offer Invisalign?
Yes we do, and at Peel Orthodontics we offer four different versions of Invisalign for patients of all ages, children, teens and adults. Invisalign's virtually invisible aligners are a popular treatment method for many of our patients.
Am I too old to have braces?
No one is too old to have braces and at Peel Orthodontics we encourage everyone to have orthodontic treatment if they’re unhappy with their teeth or smile, no matter what their age.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
This depends on the type of treatment you have and the extent of your orthodontic treatment needs. On average, most orthodontic treatment takes between 12 and 24 months, but we do offer fast treatment options for minor problems affecting the front six teeth.

I moved to Mandurah from the UK in 2008 with my husband and two children. After 15 years experience in office management, I decided it was time for a change and retrained with Dental Nursing Australia to become a qualified Dental Assistant in 2010.
Since then, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience in general dentistry in both Private Practices and the Public Dental Health Services. I joined Peel Orthodontics in May 2012 and enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere of the team.
I am a Treatment Co-ordinator for Dr Ash and enjoy meeting our fabulous patients and their families when they come to us for their initial consultation. I also work chairside, assisting with all orthodontic procedures.
Working with Dr Ash and seeing the positive results that our patients achieve through their orthodontic treatment encouraged me to have braces myself to improve my own smile. This has given me a greater understanding and appreciation of the process and the experience a patient goes through to reap the lifelong benefits of orthodontic treatment.
I have worked in the Orthodontics part of dentistry for over 12 years, and following a seachange to Mandurah 9 months ago, I began working at Peel Orthodontics.
In my free time, I love to enjoy our beautiful beaches, and estuary with my family and two dogs.
Making the most of a longtime love of the Peel region, we also enjoy boating, and entertaining, and I am currently renovating our home by the beach.
