Common Questions about Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a specialism of dentistry which focuses on correcting the alignment and position of your teeth and jaws.

The most common orthodontic problems we see are crowding and spacing issues or those relating to a patient’s bite, such as an overbite or underbite.

At stages of your treatment you may experience periods of discomfort. These are usually short lived and can be relieved by over-the-counter pain relief.

This depends on the type of treatment you require. We have outlined some fees on our treatment costs page however, we recommend a consultation where we will provide you with a quote for your customised treatment.

If you’re self-conscious about your smile, find it difficult to brush all of your teeth because of crowding or spacing issues, have protruding teeth or find it difficult to properly chew your food, then you could benefit from braces. We have a variety of options for braces and an initial, no-obligation assessment so you can find out if you are a candidate for orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontics is a very specialised field. Our Orthodontic Specialists have all trained for many years to gain the knowledge and experience needed to work in orthodontics.

Wearing braces is not just about straightening your teeth. It is also about making sure your jaw aligns properly, your bite is correct and your teeth all line up. Teeth that are straightened without the specialist training, supervision and facilities that are only available at an orthodontic facility could be counter productive to your overall wellbeing.

Orthodontics straightens teeth and corrects misaligned jaws, both of which can lead to other health problems later in life. Therefore, getting it right the first time is crucial.

Yes we do. At Peel Orthodontics we have been given Diamond Invisalign®’ Provider status, one of the highest status tiers you can reach. No one is too old to have braces and at Peel Orthodontics we encourage everyone to have orthodontic treatment if they’re unhappy with their teeth or smile, no matter what their age.

How long you are in treatment really depends on the type of treatment you have and the extent of your orthodontic needs. On average, most orthodontic treatment takes between 12 and 24 months, but we do offer fast treatment options for minor problems affecting the front six teeth.
